Peer Review by Endorsement

We believe the traditional (journal) peer review model is not optimal for monographs. Reviewing books takes a lot of time compared to reviewing journal manuscripts, which makes it very hard to find suitable and available reviewers. Moreover, as this process is to a large extent a black box, quality control cannot be guaranteed.

Instead, Aldus Press has adopted the Peer Review by Endorsement (PRE) model. We believe this is the most effective and transparent way to allow readers to validate the quality and relevance of books, which is the primary goal of peer review. Before publication, authors solicit endorsing reviews for their works from peers. The identifies of these reviewers are validated by Aldus Press (using their affiliate email address, ORCID IDs, and more). The reviews are published in the book and are included in the book’s metadata. Building on the reputation of these peers, readers will be able to quickly and effectively validate the quality and relevance of the work.

Here we detail the Aldus Press review process.

Finances

We have a number of ways to make a society imprint work for your society. The basis is that it should cost you no money. We can tailor the program in such a way that its  optimized for you and your members. This could mean:

  • A full service model whereby we take everything out of your hands and provide additional services like language editing, figure redrawing and even come and speak at your conference about ‘how to write and publish a successful book.
  • royalty model whereby we pay your society a royalty on the proceeds of the publication. You can use this financial surplus to advance the ideals of your society (travel grants, support for your society office and so forth).
  • As certain area’s of science are less funded that others, we have created the efficient model.  We can create a publication package which is most economical for your members. This will allow them to publish high quality monographs without breaking the bank.
