“Unlock global visibility for your research and ideas”
Concussion is a peer-reviewed open access journal dedicated to advancing research on concussion and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Founded by The Drake Foundation, and now published by Aldus Press, the journal features original research, reviews, and expert commentaries on the assessment, management, and long-term effects of concussion.
▪ Concussion ▪
What is concussion?
A concussion is a subset of traumatic brain injury (TBI) caused by a blow to the head or sudden movement that disrupts normal brain function. According to the Concussion in Sport Group, it is defined as a “complex pathophysiological process affecting the brain, induced by biomechanical forces.”
Scope of research
Cutting-edge research in biomarkers and diagnostic tools is transforming how concussion severity is assessed immediately after injury and how outcomes are predicted. Advances in point-of-care testing are improving the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of concussion, particularly in sports medicine, neurology, and rehabilitation.
The journal highlights significant breakthroughs in basic, translational, and clinical research while contextualising their future impact.
Key topics covered
- Concussion studies & clinical trials
- Biomarkers for diagnosis & prognosis
- Validation & application of biomarkers
- Management strategies (including return-to-play decisions in sports)
- Pathogenesis & pathology of concussion
- Long-term effects & prognosis
Concussion publishes English language research and accepts the following types of work: Research Article, Review, Perspective, Special Report, Editorial, Opinion, Commentary
Open Access
As an open-access journal, Concussion ensures that all published research is immediately and freely available to the public, supporting a greater global exchange of knowledge. Users can read, download, share, and cite articles or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author as long as they cite the source.
