Where possible, authors should submit their article via the Scholastica online submission system. If you have any difficulties submitting, please contact our editorial team by email. Submitting authors will receive confirmation of receipt and will be able to discuss the status of their article, by telephone or e-mail.

Authors are also welcome to contact the editorial team with article outlines, to discuss their suitability for submission.

Please submit manuscripts in Microsoft Word format. All figures, tables and boxes should be submitted in an editable format. Ideally these should be sent as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel or Adobe Illustrator files.

Our article processing charges follow a two-tiered system, with fees structured as outlined below.

Waiver Eligibility

Corresponding authors based in Group A or Group B countries on the Research4Life eligibility list — or whose research is funded by organisations in these countries — are eligible to apply for a 100% waiver of article processing fees.

To request this waiver, Corresponding Authors must:

  • Indicate their eligibility at the time of article submission.
  • Provide the journal editor with details of their institutional affiliation or funding source, including any funding body policies that require open-access publication.

Please note:

  • Fee waivers cannot be combined with other discounts.
  • Waivers must be requested at submission — they cannot be applied after the manuscript has been accepted and an invoice has been issued.

Disclosures and declarations

On submission of your manuscript you need to make various warranties and declarations relating to your work on behalf of your co-authors where relevant.
