Impacting the rugby tackle: risk factors and mechanisms for concussio

This systematic review and Delphi consensus synthesises evidence on how specific rugby tackle characteristics contribute to concussion and musculoskeletal injury.
Drawing on match-analysis studies and expert consensus, the authors identify high-risk tackle scenarios, including upright tackles, head-to-head contact, and poor body positioning. The study goes beyond description by evaluating the perceived effectiveness and feasibility of proposed interventions, such as technique coaching, law changes, and referee enforcement. Together, the findings provide a robust, evidence-informed framework for reducing injury risk in rugby through targeted, practical changes to how tackles are coached, executed, and regulated.
